Have you ever wanted to make a thoughtful and creative birthday gift for a friend that shows how much you appreciate their starry personality? This quick and easy DIY craft project will show you how to make a custom astrology/personality poster using the Secret Language of Birthdays free website. This DIY is perfect for those who want to give a meaningful, handmade gift for their witchy friends.
Or perhaps you’ve wanted to learn more about your own astrologic personality and are interested in making a poster for yourself! I became obsessed with the Secret Language of Birthdays book that my friend owned. I would spend hours flipping through the pages reading about the distinct personality traits of my closest friends and family. Recently I stumbled across the Secret Language of Birthdays website and was pulled right back into the magic of astrology and personality research. I decided to make a quick and easy birthday gift for a friend using some of the info I learned.
- Internet access (so you can research birth dates)
- Watercolor paper (any size! I used a small page, 5”x8” but you could make a full 8.5”x11” or larger)
- Black pens with a fine tip
- Watercolor paints
- Paint brushes
Step 1: Birthday Research
Look up your friend’s birthday using the Secret Language of Birthdays website. If you are unsure about the exact year, don't worry! The day and month are all you really need. Read all about their personality and pick out the qualities or characteristics that you would like to include on your custom poster. I copied and pasted certain paragraphs I liked and then shortened them into three succinct sentences that really captured the essence of my friend’s personality. The website should also list a planet that rules your specific birthdate, so make sure you take note of that
Step 2: Sketch your design
Laying out your poster is an important step. Plan out the largest items such as the birthdate header and where you will be painting your watercolor planet or moon. Lightly write the words and phrases that you outlined in Step 1.
Step 3: Ink your design using black pens
Step 4: Paint your moon or planet
Venus rules November 6 people, so I googled “Venus” as a reference point. It’s surprisingly yellow and gold and fiery looking, so I used those colors primarily. Painting with watercolors can take time to get used to. It may be a good idea to practice painting your planet on a different page before painting on the final piece. I recommend this YouTube tutorial to learn a couple different techniques.
Step 5: Gift your poster or mail it away!
All of the personal touches make this gift extra special, and it’s easy enough that anyone can make a custom DIY astrology/personlity poster for themselves or someone they care about. Hope you enjoy making your own!
